WSSMV Synonyms: Wheat Yellow Mosaic Virus
Causes a mosaic disease of autumn- or winter-sown wheat (Triticum spp.) characterized by chlorotic to necrotic spindle-shaped streaks in the leaves, slight stunting, reduced tillering and reduced seed yield. Yields of wheat growing in infective soil may be reduced 25 to 50% but generally much smaller losses are evident. Temperature is the major climatic factor affecting disease development.
