In Phaseolus vulgaris two main types of symptom occur, depending on virus strain and host genotype: 'common mosaic', often associated with leaf malformation, and 'black root', characterized by systemic necrosis and plant death. The virus causes mosaic in most other susceptible Phaseolus species.
